Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Hi all,

I’m currently in Australia on a little holiday before I start my next placement at Labplus. Boy is summer hot here! I’m constantly sticky and sweaty and require air con just to survive in this country. Other than the heat, I’m loving it in Aus ! Theres so much to do and the surroundings remind me of home yet feel so new and fresh at the same time. We flew to Brisbane and drove up to Noosa, where we are staying for 5 days before going back to Auckland.

One of the things I really wanted to do was cuddle a koala so it was a given that I had to visit the lone pine koala sanctuary. We bought our tickets online beforehand as it’s cheaper if you prebuy rather than purchase at the door. Even though we went on Monday, there were still a LOT of people so get in early if you want to get a photo of you cuddling a koala. It does cost extra for any animal held photos you want to take (they offer snake photo’s as well), at $18 / animal. Which is quite reasonable as you’re allowed to take as many photos on your own device as well as have a professional photo to keep (printed and free to download digitally). They do ask at the ticket counter if you want to pay $1 for a guide-book but you don’t really need it as there are plenty of maps available around the sanctuary and you can snap a photo of the show times which is shown right after you come out the entrance building.

Below are the photos of me while I held the koala and snake (yes I paid for both and excuse my nasty tan lines).

They also have a lot of australian icon animals such as the wombat, platypus, dingo, kookaburra, kangaroo, and Tasmanian devil. So you can’t get more Australian than that! I absolutely loved it here because I felt like I was up close and personal with them. You can also pay $2 for a kangaroo feed pouch at the same store where you purchase photo tickets. There’s an open section full of kangaroos for you to freely pet and feed. If you don’t want to fork out the extra $2 then no worries! They are so used to human interaction that you can walk right up and take photos without having to feed them 🙂

High Tea at Bellini

Hello my chums !

It’s been super long since I last posted but I will be posting more often now as my exams are over and I have officially settled into my place at Rotorua 🙂

A few days before I left, I had a nice relaxing girls day with my bestie (her blog can be found here). The weather was perfect ! Sunny but not too hot with a little wind. We decided to go have high tea and we’ve already tried the one at Langham and Orbit so after a little digging through the web, we decided on Bellini at Hilton Hotel.

They are situated right at the pier so you can see all the ferries come by and the views are awesome for photos.

The bar was very quiet and easy to talk and chat, I think it may be because it was on a Thursday and most people are at work. The staff are very friendly and the service was great but not overwhelming like most high teas. They leave you alone to talk and take photos. We chose the traditional option where you can choose from a selection of teas or coffee’s but they do have other options where a cocktail is included or whisky etc (the price will differ depending on what option). The traditional high tea cost $39 which is reasonable compared to all the other high teas which are around the $40-$50 mark.

The savouries and scones come out in flat plates and the desserts in the traditional 3 tier plates. Personally I loved their scones and savouries more than their dessert (and I love cake) but the passionfruit tart was delicious !

I also found it very cute and a nice little touch that they added macaroons to our drinks.

I would’ve liked a better selection of tea though (Langham has much more options of unique teas and drinks that are included in your high tea, and you get to choose 2! You can read about that here).

The interior is decorated really nicely with nice big sofas and ottomans and comfy chairs but the tables were a bit low for us to sit and eat comfortable, it seemed more like a table for us to place our drinks so that we can talk rather than a place to eat. Nevertheless the food and location is amazing and I do recommended coming here for a few hours to eat and enjoy the scenery and catch up with some friends !

03/09/2016 Nicole’s Wedding

Hi guys, I’m soooo knackered right now but I’m going to write this blog post before I rest! It’s the end of my super busy week and my final test ended this morning before I headed off to work (yaaaaay!!)

What I really wanted to write about today… is my cousin’s wedding! If you do follow me on instagram you’ll probably have seen some of these photo’s already so it won’t be a surprise on what happened. But the wedding was two weeks ago now but I remember it so well because it was so fun and just so beautiful seeing her walk down the aisle! It almost made me tear up. But that’s because I grew up with her (we are a year apart) and seeing her in her wedding dress really hit me that we’ve all grown up and she found her perfect man ❤

Now I don’t want this to get too soppy so I’ll just briefly talk about the proceedings. It started off at the church which was open to all family and friends. There was a slideshow of their time together since they started dating and the exchange of vows etc. At the end, we all took heaps of photos with the bride and groom before heading off next door for tea and snacks. I have to admit, I just stood next to that bowl of hummus like it was my life hehe.

Look at that dress!

Then for the dinner, she invited all her close family and friends to a vineyard out in kumeu. Even though everyone arrived at 6pm, it was around dusk and the surroundings were so cute and homely set behind a neat little cottage house. It looked amazing. So it’s not surprising I took quite a few photos 😛

She did such a wonderful job planning all of this! I wish her all the happiness in her new life with Jack 🙂

Placement Update

Woohoo guys I’m super excited 😀

I can finally plan for my placement’s coming up. I’ve been assigned to Rotorua during November – February before I come back to Auckland for my second placement in February – June. Both of them are in hospitals which I am sooooo happy with! I only hope I can find a nice place to stay as I’m only down for 3 months which is kind of an awkward length :/

Because I’ve been assigned for summer semester, it means I don’t get any summer holiday and I only get a week after my final exams to pack and drive on down to settle in as well as a week before I swap my placements. But it means that hopefully, I can start looking for a job sooner so I can earn money. Because I will desperately be needing it after my placements.

I will most likely take my car down with me so on the weekends I can explore around and make more blog posts for you guys! I’ve already forced my boyfriend to come drive down and visit me every few weeks 😛 and I will have the christmas and new year’s week off so I can drive back up to see my family ❤

MIA

Hi guys, sorry if I’ve been MIA recently! A lot of things have been happening in my personal life that I just haven’t been in the mood to do a post and as a result I’m really behind on studying for my tests and doing my assignment which are all due together.

I’ve just started my 2 week term break which means I can hopefully start to buckle down and study hard! I’ll try to make a post sometime soon.

I’ve also got my cousins wedding next week which will bring happiness and help our family move on from everything that’s happened, I can’t wait to go! Due to traditions from our culture I almost couldn’t attend 😦

Side note: the wire attached behind the teeth of my lower jaw have fallen off again 😦 is it just me or did you all have problems with the permanent wire too?! (People that had braces will understand)
